A perennial herbaceous plant l-l.2m. high Rootstock horizontal, stout, whitish, strangled' at the nodes. Leaves stalkless narrow 5-10 verticillate with a long, sharp and curling tip. Flowers red, in pairs, drooping in the axils. Berry oval, violet-blue when ripe. |

Pharmacology
Medicinal Use |

The root is used to prevent atherosclerosis and fatty infiltration in the liver. It is used in the treatment of dry coughs due to chronic bronchitis and pulmonary tuberculosis, diabetes, sore loins and dizziness, fatigue, weak pulse and poor appetite. |
