Description |

Uzara is a perennial erect herb with strong, upright stems, a fleshy root system, and yellowish bell-shaped flowers. The large leaves secrete a milky latex when crushed. Fruits : mericarps usually solitary, occ. paired, erect, on contorted pedicels. Seeds ca. 5 mm long, 2–3 mm wide, ovate. |

Uzara root is used to treat diarrhea and dysentery.It is also used for afterbirth cramps, dysentery, stomach cramps, colic, edema, headaches, indigestion, and dysmenorrhea. Externally, Uzara root can be used in a poultice for treating sores and wounds. |
Contraindication |
 |
|
Do not use Uzara while taking digitalis-type heart medications such as digoxin (Lanoxin). Avoid if pregnant or breastfeeding. |
