A perennial and is a evergreen herb which can reach 75cm in height (30inches). Leaves can be as wide as 15 cm (6inches); each rounded, heart shaped leaf has small rounded teeth; tough and leathery and turn a reddish brown in winter. Flowers are white in color and on a single spike-like raceme 15-25 cm long on top of a 20-50 cm tall stem; each individual flower has five petals, and is up to 4 mm or 0.15 inches in diameter. Fruit is a small capsule containing numerous seeds.
