Paratyphoid fever is a serious contagious disease caused by the bacterium salmonella paratyphi. It can be transmitted from animals to humans or from person to person. It can occur in all age groups. Symptom onset may be gradual in adults but is often sudden in children. The symptoms include high fever, headache, loss of appetite, vomiting, and constipation or diarrhea. A bacterial culture from blood, stool, urine or bone marrow confirms the diagnosis of paratyphoid fever. |
