Hyperaemia is characterized by excess accumulation of blood in an organ or any other part of the body. The condition is subdivided into active hyperaemia, in which blood collects in an organ due to increased blood flow, and passive hyperaemia, in which blood collects in an organ due to an obstruction in the outflowing veins. Hyperaemia can have medical implications, but is also a regulatory response, allowing change in blood supply to different tissues through vasodilation. |
