General Info

Description

An erect annual herb, 30-90 cm. high. Leaves oval or ovate-lanceolate, pubescent, denticulate; flowers small, light blue, in terminal and axillary racemes; capsules inflated, sub-globular, 5-8 mm. long, compressed laterally; seeds numerous, minute, ovate-oblong, coarsely reticulate, brown.

Herb Effects

Expectorant, diaphoretic, aphrodisiac, laxative, emetic (in large doses), euphoriant, posionous (can be fatal) in very high doses, alleviates spasms, increases nerve strength, psychological aid, relaxing and stimulant.

Pharmacology

Medicinal Use

Cancer therapy, asthma, whooping cough, bronchitis, convulsive and inflammatory diseases, chicken pox, gout, hemorrhoids, migraine, orthopedic, pulmonary, gastrointestinal, throat and venereal maladies, vomiting, ophthalmia, sprains, bruises and skin diseases.

Contraindication

Not recommended for people with high blood pressure or for those prone to faintness.
