A medium sized evergreen tree up to 18 m tall. Leaves paripinnate 20-40 cm long, leaflets 2 to 4 pairs, elliptic or elliptic-oblong, coriaceous, margins entire, apex rounded. Flowers minute, yellowish green, either male or bisexual, fascicled in spike like axillary racemes 7.5 to 12.5 cm long. Fruits berry, globose or ovoid, hard skinned. Seeds brown, irregularly elliptic, slightly compressed, oily, enclosed in a succulent aril.

Astringent (bark); antiinflammatory and stimulates the growth of hair (kernel oil); stimulates the central nervous system (aerial part).
