Pleurisy is an inflammation of the pleura, the lining of the pleural cavity surrounding the lungs. It is also known as pleuritis. The major symptom of pleurisy is a sharp, stabbing pain towards the side and lower part of the chest. The pain may also be felt along the shoulders, neck and abdomen. Any movement involving the chest, such as breathing or coughing, will aggravate the pain. Other symptoms include shortness of breath, dry cough, fever and chills. Pleurisy may be caused by infection, injury, or tumor. Pleurisy may be a complication of underlying lung diseases, particularly of pneumonia, or sometimes of tuberculosis, lung abscesses, or influenza. Pleurisy can also occur spontaneously without any preceding problem.

Allium macrostemon	In the treatment of stuffiness sensation and pain in the chest, angina pectoris, pleurisy, bronchitis, diarrhoea and tenesmus in cases of dysentery (plant)
Angelica archangelica	Good remedy for colds, coughs, pleurisy, wind, colic, rheumatism and diseases of the urinary organs, for intestinal problems (including indigestion).
Aristolochia tomentosa	To promote sweating, stimulate the appetite and promote expectoration, to relieve stomach pains, for fever (root); to slow-healing wounds and in the treatment of pleurisy (chewed root or crushed leaves).
Armoracia rusticana	In the treatment of colds, fevers and flu and is of value in the treatment of respiratory and urinary tract infections; to treat pleurisy, arthritis and infected wounds (root)
Mikania glomerata	Cough, bronchitis, throat inflammation, pleurisy, colds, flu, asthma, sore throats, laryngitis, and fever (Leaves); Neuralgia, rheumatic pain, eczema, pruritus and wounds (decoction of the leaves).
Pimenta racemosa	Used to treat adenopathy, cancer, chest cold, diarrhea, dyspepsia, edema, elephantiasis, fever, headache, nausea, pleurisy, pneumonia, rheumatism, toothache, varicosis and vertigo.
Polypodium vulgare	For melancholia and also for rheumatic swelling of the joints (fresh roots); in jaundice, dropsy and scurvy, and combined with mallows removes hardness of the spleen, stitches in the side and colic. In the treatment of pleurisy, hives, sore throats and stomach aches and as a mild laxative for children (tea from roots).
